I would say welcome to BLT, but the whole theme here is
sort of antisocial humor, so come in if you feel you can take it, but
don't say you weren't warned.
If you ask the trademark office, BLT stands for Black Leather Times. If
you check a particular issue of BLT, it might appear to stand for Blood
Laved Truncheons or Boyfriends, Lesbians, & Truth or Backstabbing Lazy
Tenants. If you read The Washington Post, you might think BLT stands
for "off-color sketches about grunge culture hijinks and kinky
fantasies."
Perhaps Richard Kadrey hit the nail on the head when he wrote up BLT in
his Covert Culture Sourcebook, saying "Punk with computers. You've been
warned." So, having computers and all, we figured it was time to really
bring BLT to the web. This is a compendium of past issues. Some of the
information may no longer be exactly current as we've been publishing
since Halloween of 1990. But it ought to still be funny. Unless, of
course, you think the joke is on you. Just remember, if you think a
specific article is about you and your rotten personality, given the
timeline, it probably isn't. But we'd prefer it if you took it
personally anyway. We'll be posting some new issues soon enough, so
we'll get around to you. Members of our street team will be passing out
print copies of our most recent edition of the zine where we really may
be addressing your personal foibles.
Why bring our punk rock humor zine to the internet now? I initially
balked at the idea of putting any of my work online. I felt that the web
was killing print publishing. And now the web has killed or greatly
diminished many forms of print publishing. So it is a fait accompli.
Roll with it or don't get the word out. Over time, a number of my more
Gothic projects have spawned online offshoots. But I always considered
Gothic a spice, a depressed yet well-dressed sort of punk rock. However
Gothic is a lot like garlic and it can overpower everything you mix it
with. So this is my attempt to get back to my roots by kickin' it old
school.
I hope you enjoy BLT. I hope it makes you laugh. I hope it makes you
think. And, if not, fuck you.
