Docile: Thought for the day:
by Deborah Ellington

Why is it that in our society, a drug like marijuana that makes you relaxed and docile is bad, yet a drug like Prozac that makes you relaxed and docile is good?

In fact 2 million prescriptions for Prozac are filled in the United States every month. This drug is prescribed for everything from bulimia to bipolar disorder, leading me to wonder how effective it is at treating people's health problems versus its effectiveness in making people passive.

I want to know why a drug that totally changes your personality and makes you dependent on a chemical is good when it makes Eli Lilly (Prozac's manufacturer) rich, but a drug which produces similar effects is bad if it makes Joe Guy a few bucks here and there selling dime bags?

[I think this is a trick question. --Ed]
